Charis Papaevangelou is an aspiring researcher, currently working towards advancing to a PhD degree, holding a BA in Communication, Media and Culture from Panteion University and an MA in New Media & Digital Culture from Universiteit Utrecht. His main focus of interest revolves around cultural studies and video-games.
Throughout his academic studies, Charis has demonstrated a strong interest in video-games and has inquired them from various angles: from his take on the “countergaming” culture of "The Beginner's Guide" game design to his research internship at Tamasenco, a Greek indie video-game studio, where he tried to preliminarily define a cultural aspect of the local production. He worked at Tamasenco for 9 months, as the team’s Communications Manager and Game Researcher.
In March 2019, he was selected to present a paper on digital platforms & platformisation at the 4th Conference of Cultural & Creative Industries at Thessaloniki. He has recently co-authored a chapter with Elina Roinioti PhD on eSports and Digital Arenas, with a clear emphasis on the burgeoning Greek gaming scene and culture, which is part of an edited volume that will become part of the mandatory curriculum for Panteion’s Communication, Media and Culture department. Also, his MA Thesis engaged with the understudied topic of video-games’ distribution, where he tackled Valve’s Steam to exhibit the platform’s effects on video-game production and circulation.
