Vasiliki Lalioti is Assistant Professor of anthropology of performance in the Department of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She studied History and Archaeology in the University of Crete and Social Anthropology in the University of Durham, from which she received her Ph.D. (2002). She has conducted ethnographic research in Athens, Crete, Volos, San Jose (Costa Rica), and the title of her thesis is “Social memory and ethnic identity: ancient Greek drama performances as commemorative ceremonies”. She is the author of the book The Soundtrack of our lives. Contemporary issues in the study of popular music, 2016, Athens: Papazisis, and co-author of the book ‘... because it's in our blood’. From ancient drama to flamenco: Bringing anthropology back to the field of experience. 2010, Athens: Kritiki. (co-author: M. Papapavlou). Her research interests and publications in various Greek and international journals include: performing arts (theatre, music), popular culture, politics of memory, social movements, posthumanism and technology, digitality.
